2019: I Will Contest Presidential Poll – Bafarawa

The former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has formally disclosed his intention to contest for the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at his residence in Sokoto at the week end, the former governor who contested for the presidential poll in 2007 on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) said he is in a good position to understand the problems plaguing Nigeria and how to find solutions to them.

According to him, “Politics is my profession. I am a grassroots politician spanning for over four decades.”

Hinging his desire to contest on the love for his people and improve their living conditions, he explained that his delay in declaring for the 2019 presidential despite calls and pressures from several quarters was due to the situation in the country and the PDP.

The former presidential candidate of the DPP in 2007 said that the problem of Nigerians has been to allow unprofessional politicians to run democratic government.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is my student. I brought him into politics. I gave him ticket to contest when I was the national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. Therefore I know how to run the affairs of the country and the party.

“Nigerians are calling for restructuring because of the way APC government was running the affairs of the country.”
