The Kwara State Police Command has warned politicians to refrain from acts that could cause apathy and violence before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bashir Manama gave the warning today at an Election security meeting with stakeholders organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State Command, held at Stella Obasanjo hall, Ilorin.
Mr. Makama also vowed to deal with any politician or individual blowing unauthorised sirens in the state.
He cautioned politicians to abstain from using thugs for their campaign activities, engaging in the use of hate speeches that could insinuate or cause problems before, during and after elections, pointing out that anybody caught would be arrested and prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police assured that the command in partnership with sister security agencies would provide adequate security for INEC staff in moving both sensitive and insensitive electoral materials across the 16 local government areas of the state, warning politicians not to canvass, solicit for voting at voting centres and should not wear any cloth with any insignia of any political party, saying that anybody caught would be arrested.
The Commissioner of Police told political parties and their candidates to prepare their campaigns intenary and inform the command about their campaigns 48 hours before the commencement of such political campaign in order for the command to provide adequate security.
