4 Things to brace up for after graduation

Graduating from an high institution could plunge you into the strange terrains of life-after-school. Especially, if daddy and mummy were the ones fending for you. At that point, you might have to forget about your campus life and begin to adjust to a new social life and financial responsibilities. Here are four struggles you’ll most likely face after your graduation.

1. Adapting to a new environment

Many Nigerian graduates travel for their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where they meet strange cultures and people or start their MSc program immediately or travel out of the country. Wherever you move to will definitely have an effect on you and will require you to adjust.

2. Having to make new friends

In campus, friends just happen as one meets course mates in lecture halls. But in the outside world you are expected to exhibit social etiquette at work place or events where you are likely to make new friends who may be good for business as well as lifelong companions. And many a time these friends come from a stranger culture unlike your campus friends.

3. Having to plan a budget

While in school, family members, friends and guardians make it their obligation to fill your pocket with money so you will study comfortably. But after school there generosity ends or becomes really scarce because they expect you to get a job and fend for yourself. Therefore you will need to become prudent in your expenses and save as much as you can. Therefore, you will have to cut your expenses and spend only when is necessary.

4. Having to plan your career

One sure struggle you’ll have to face after graduation is securing a job either out of desperation or choice. So, it becomes important to think about career and how to sharpen your skills towards it. Because at the end life’s work matters too.
