Aggrieved Uselu Psychiatric Hospital Staff Petition Presidency Again

By Ikhili Monday EBALU, Benin City

The long overdrawn crisis rocking the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Benin city, seems  to have taken a new dimension,  as the aggrieved staff members has once again sent a reminder  of their petition to the notice of the Presidency.

In a strongly worded petition, signed by , Dr. Ambrose.O Lawani (Head Residency Training/Forensic Unit, Consultant Special Grade II-GL 16), and others , addressed to the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and copied some prominent Nigerians including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the Edo State Governor, Godwin Neghoghase Obaseki amongst several others, the 11 aggrieved staff went down memory lane to give a recap of the genesis of the crisis.

According to the petitioners the root of the crisis can be traced to what they alleged to be the “flawed emergence” of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the facility, Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu.

The petitioners disclosed that “panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Health in December 2011 headed by Mrs Rabi Adamu mni (Director in Permanent Secretary’s office) reported that the process culminating in the appointment of Dr Sunday Osasu Olotu as Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Uselu (FNPH-Uselu), Benin was flawed.

“The Department of Hospital Services led by Dr Wapada Balami is alleged on page 9 of the report to have misled the Federal Ministry of Health on matters of Appointment Promotion and Discipline (APD).

“Your Excellency, we humbly wish to inform you that we have written severally to the Federal Ministry of Health on this matter and sadly we never received any response, talk less of addressing the issues raised in our letters”, they added.

The petitioners recalled that in the last two years they have been writing series of petitions to the Presidency but all to no avail.

“As believers in the Change Agenda who do not wish to engage in self help we had written several letters in the past two (2) years to the Presidency in respect of our predicament, sadly though all to no avail.

“Our last letter to you vide the Acting Secretary to Government of the Federation, Dr. Habibat Muda Lawal dated 8th May 2017, was received on 11th May 2017.

“Having waited for a month without any reply or reassurance we have decided to do you another reminder on the ongoing heist at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Uselu perpetrated by Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu (whose tenure expired since March 20th 2016 and has illegally remained in Office).”

They stressed that the failure of the Federal Ministry of Health to do the needful for over two years now is worrisome and unfortunate.

The aggrieved staff stated that they have suffered molestation from Dr. Olotu as a result of their insistence that he should run the affairs of the facility with honesty among several infarctions.

They appealed to the acting President to among others call for their reinstatement and payment of their outstanding salaries; and promotion arrears.
