The Bauchi State Universal Education Board (BASUBEB)said it conducted capacity building trainings for 6,445 teachers to inculcate in them basic teaching and learning skills between December 2020 and February.
Malam Muhammad Abdullahi, the Spokesperson of BASUBEB, made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Bauchi on Thursday.
He said the training was part of the Teacher Professional Development Programme (TPD) organised by the national office of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with BASUBEB.
He explained that 2,500 head teachers were trained on the basic requirements in schools re-opening, especially after long vacation or any unexpected eventuality.
He added that 300 Assistant Education Officers, formerly known as school support officers, were also trained on how to extend complimentary support services to teachers in different areas of need in schools.
Abdullahi said 155 teachers were trained on classroom management and school leadership, stressing that the training was expected to impact positively on teaching and learning by boosting the capacity of the teachers.
He added that 2,000 teachers were fully exposed to basic skills to enable them master the rudiments of the profession by acquainting them with basic teaching skills and methods.
He said 1,500 teachers had also been trained on Early Grade Reading (EGR) for primary 1,2 and 3 across all the 20 existing Local Education Authorities (LEAs), and that the training was sponsored by the Northern Education Initiative Plus (NET+).
Our correspondent reports that the Bauchi state Universal Basic Education Board recently renovated no fewer than 350 primary and JSS schools and provided them with furniture to ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment.
