Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi state has described the Federal and his state governments as media friendly, as from May 2015 when the two tiers of government were inaugurated to date; there wasn’t any problem between the duets.
Congratulating the media on the World Press Day celebration at the Government House, Bauchi yesterday, and the Governor noted that the feat was realized following his promise that the APC administration in the state will abide by rule of law in the conduct of affairs of government.
The Governor stated, “Abiding by the rule of law entails the respect to press freedom and the provision of enabling environment for the press to perform its responsibilities as the Fourth Estate of the Realm”
Governor Mohammed Abubakar therefore reassured the people of Bauchi state, particularly the press that the state government will continue providing smooth playing ground for the press to perform its responsibilities.
The Bauchi Chief Executive has earlier Wednesday evening received national officers of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) led by the President, Comrade Honour Sirawoo, who were in Bauchi for the association’s 5day 53th council meeting.
Receiving the delegation, the Governor observed that SWAN meeting at Yankari Resort and Safari has lend credence to his enlightenment drive of selling Yankari to tourists both within and outside the country.
He explained that apart from the Yankari Resort and Safari, Bauchi also boost of other tourist attractions, among which is the Sumu Games Part that houses animals that are not common to West Africa.
Abubakar, who told the SWAN chieftains that his administration is a sports friendly government further unveiled plan to equip secondary schools in the state with sporting facilities geared to groom students in sporting activities in the move christened ‘Catch Them Young’.
“We must find something that will occupy the minds of youth against being lured by undesirable elements such as Boko Haram insurgents, whose motives are not yet fully comprehended.
Speaking, SWAN National President, Comrade Honour Sirawoo said they were in Bauchi for a meeting to review activities of the association with a view to making amend where necessary, as the delegation was opportune to go round some sports projects in the state.
Comrade Honour Sirawoo said that sports if effectively tapped are an instrument that will generate revenue to propel execution of various developments at the state and the country at large.
Highlights of the courtesy visit include the presentation to the Governor the National Patron of the association, as well as the state’s government response of donating a bus to the Bauchi state chapter of the association.
