Bauchi top medals table at U-17 North-East Youth Games

Bauchi State emerged overall winner of the just concluded 2017 U-17 North-East Youth Games elimination held in Bauchi.

According to results made available to the press after 3 days of the competition by the technical committee of the games, Bauchi State recorded five gold, one silver and two bronze medals to clinch the first position.

Adamawa had two gold, four silver and two bronze medals to place second in the four events competed for , while Yobe came third with one gold and one silver.

Taraba was fourth with two silver and two bronze medals, while Gombe came last with only two bronze.

National Trail reports   that Borno did not participated in the tournament as the state’s officials at the events said they lacked funds but will compete in other events at the youth festival proper scheduled for Ilorin Kwara State early next month.

An analysis of the tournament shows that Bauchi took first in male Basketball, male and female Hockey as well as female Handball and female Volleyball respectively.

Adamawa on her part got first position in female Basketball and female and male volleyball respectively.

Yobe took first position in male handball, while it came second in male hockey.

Ony four events were featured at the Zone 4 of the Zonal Youth Games Bauchi which included Basketball, Volleyball, Handball and Hockey that lasted for three days.

The Bauchi state Director of Sports Mallam Lawal Garba, while speaking with National Trail expressed satisfaction with the way and manner every participating state behaved and the spirit of sportsmanship each state exhibited,  this according to him led to the success of the tournament.

The Director however commended Bauchi state Government under the good leadership of Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar for bankrolling the expenses of the tournament.
