Street beggars in Gombe have said that they are the worst hit by the recent demise of former first lady and wife of the immediate past Governor of the State, Hajiya Fatima Yelwa Goje.
According to one of the popular wheel chaired beggars at the Ministry of Works junction in Gombe, the Gombe State capital, Mallam Ibrahim Guruma, beggars in the area are crying their hearts out following her extraordinary philanthropic gestures to disabled street beggars.
Speaking to our correspondent, Mallam Ibrahim said they feel more bereaved than any person on the face of the earth because of her closeness and assistance to them.
“The news really shocked us and we are saddened by her exit. Though no one can question Allah SWT for her demise because He gives and He takes. We pray for the repose of her soul and for Allah to reward her with Aljannatul Firdausi”, Mallam Ibrahim stated in tears.
Explaining how Hajiya Yelwa, wife of current Senator representing Gombe Central District, Senator Danjuma Goje impacted on their lives before passing away, he said, “no Sallah passes by without her sending different foodstuff comprising no fewer than 20 bags of rice to all disabled groups in the state, sugar, seasonings, spaghetti among many others and not just on festive occasions alone”.
“She identified with us to the extent that when one of us was getting married recently, she hired vehicles and was present with us at the Jewel Suites up to the end of the occasion. She has, at several times, assisted us with wrappers to give to our wives. When her father died, we had to hire a bus and filled it to capacity and travelled to Kashere to condole her. She made us feel part of the society,” Mallam Ibrahim said.
The news of the death of Hajiya Fatima Yelwa Danjuma Goje filtered into the country last Monday afternoon. She died while receiving treatment at a hospital in the United States of America leaving behind her husband, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, children and grand-children.
Meanwhile the burial of Hajiya Yelwa Mohammed Danjuma Goje, earlier scheduled for today Wednesday November 1st has been postponed to Saturday.
The family said the postponement was due to airspace clearance of the remains of the deceased who died on Monday at a hospital in the United States of America.
“The postponement was due to airspace clearance but the burial will take place tomorrow Saturday November 4, same time and venue,” the family said.
The family in a statement by Ahmad Mohammed Goje had yesterday said the burial would take place in Gombe at the Emir’s Palace by 2.pm.
