The Ogun Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday said the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state was “victory for all participants and Nigeria’s democracy”.
The Chairman of the Association, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya, said that contrary to expectations of many people, the elections were peaceful.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogun was considered a flash point state in the build up to the elections.
The elections were, however, widely adjudged orderly and peaceful.
The clergyman, therefore, said the the polls were victory for all the contestants, electorate, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigeria’s democracy.
Akin-Akinsanya, congratulated the Governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun, for his triumph, urging him to consider his victory as “an act of God”.
“Please note that no one can receive anything by his own power or might, but only through God that shows mercy,” he said in a statement.
The association chairman advised the governor-elect to run an all-inclusive government by extending a hand of fellowship and friendship to all other contestants in the election.
According to him, a tree cannot make the forest.
Akin-Akinsanya urged other contestants in the poll not to lose faith in God, and should consider Abiodun’s victory as a success for all of them.
He called on the people of the state to co-operate with the governor-elect in moving the state to a greater height, irrespective of their faith, tribe or political leaning.
