A 44-year-old caterer, Nkechi Obanor, on Tuesday, appeared  in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, for alleged criminal intimidation and defamation.

The police charged Obanor who resides at I Nigeria Junction, Phase III, Gwagwalada, FCT, with criminal intimidation and defamation of character.

The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the complainant Dr Oladele Aluko of Wazobia street, Dabi Bako Kwali, Abuja reported the matter at the Area Command Gwagwalada, FCT, on Dec. 12.

Yakubu told the court that the defendant threatened to kill the complainant and his wife with calls and text messages.

”The defendant accused the complainant of causing her separation from her husband,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also wrote a defamatory letter of sexual harassment, indecent assault and intimidation to the University of Abuja where the complainant works aimed at tarnishing his name.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 396 and 392 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilt to the charge.

The judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.

Umar ordered that the surety must resides within the court jurisdiction.

The judge ordered the surety to provide means of identification and two passport or in default the defendant must be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre.

Umar adjourned the case until March 9 for hearing.
