An Ex-Niger Delta Agitator, Benson Donyegha(aka General Don Ben), has stated that the region is suffering gross neglect by the government which has resulted in the chain of crisis engulfing the region.

He asserted that if the region is getting its due from the government then there would be no need for unrest as is often the case in the region.

“As far as the people of the Niger Delta region are concerned we have not been well treated by the Nigerian government.

“How can it be said that the goose that lays the golden egg has never gotten its fair share of the bounties accruing from its God given resources.

“Oil companies in Nigeria are located in the Niger Delta region yet we are being treated like slaves. We are not feeling the impact of good governance. Rather, we are suffering. Our land has been taken over by oil multinationals such that our rivers are polluted.

“We can no longer farm or fish as oil spillage has been a problem that we face regularly.
“If we get what is due to us from the government nobody will like to fight the government,* he posited.
