Children’s Day: Edo To Introduce E-Learning In Schools

Governor Godwin Obaseki has revealed that the state government would introduce the use of computers and notepads as tools for teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools across the state from September this year.

The governor announced this as he celebrated the 2017 National Children’s Day with young children and parents at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, on Saturday.

Governor Obaseki revealed that the move to introduce technology in primary and secondary educational institutions of the state was in line with his administration’s goal to improve the quality of education in the state.

He said: “We want to key into President Muhamandu Buhari’s vision to reposition the nation’s education system as a foundation for economic and social development. As a first step, we will start from Primary 1 and JSS 1 to introduce computers and notepads in the learning process of the state.

“Pupils and students will start to receive lectures and instruction with computers and notepads this year,” he said.

In addition, the governor stated that his administration would also subscribe to the Sustainable Development Goals campaign and reduce instances of child trafficking and violence against children through the domestication of federal government laws against human trafficking.

He therefore called on stakeholders to collaborate with the government to ensure that the children’s rights were protected and they were morally brought up.

Meanwhile, the governor’s wife, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, launched a child-friendly version of the Child Right Law, saying that the state government produced the easy-to-read version for children in the state to understand and be acquainted with their basic rights.

The First Lady noted that the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and social development would ensure that copies of the books were distributed to every child in the state through their schools, while expressing optimism that the version of the law would bring better protection and joy to every child in the state.

It would be recalled that the state government, last week, launched the Child Protection Law.
