Court remands man, 23, in correctional centre over alleged attempted murder

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, ordered that a 23-year-old man, Kolawole Taiwo, be remanded in Ado-Ekiti correctional centre over alleged attempted murder.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing trial for attempted murder.The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 2, in Ado-Ekiti.Akinwale alleged that the defendant attempted to murder one Sheu Abubakar, a security man.He said that the defendant went to visit his friend, while the complainant, a security man at the gate did not allowed him access to the compound, leading to a fight where the defendant hit him on the head with a wooden plank.He said that the complainant was seriously injured and hospitalised.

He said the offence contravenes Section 320 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a Correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of public Prosecution (DPP).The plea of the defendant was however, not taken. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti, pending issuance of legal advice. She adjourned the case until Feb. 12, for mention.
