COVID-19: A’Ibom Rep distributes palliatives to constituents

Rep. Patrick Ifon, the member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has distributed food items to cushion the effects of the lockdown caused by COVID-19 on his constituents.

Ifon donated the items on Tuesday to Eket Federal Constituency which comprised Eket, Esit Eket, Ibeno and Onna Local Government Areas.

Our correspondent reports that the items included bags of rice, cartoons of Noodles and hand sanitisers.

He noted that the donation was part of his efforts aimed at ameliorating the suffering of the people during the lockdown period.

Ifon, represented by his wife, Dr Elsie Ifon, said the gesture was to compliment the efforts of the state governor, to cushion the effect occasioned by the lockdown in the state.

He said that the food items should be given to the most vulnerable people and those who had not benefitted from the gesture of the state government and other stakeholders.

“We want to compliment the efforts of the governor and other stakeholders who had earlier presented palliatives to the local government areas so that the food items will go round,” Ifon said.

Ifon decried the situation where people take advantage of the pandemic to increase the prices of foodstuffs in the state, saying that the Coronavirus had not entered the farms.

Receiving the food items on behalf of the people, Mr Frank Archibong, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, thanked the donor for the kind gesture.

“It is one thing to have and it is another thing to give. It is one thing to be voted for and another thing is to remember the people that voted for you.

“It shows he has good heart and it shows he is committed to his people of the constituents,” Archibong said.

He said that the council had sensitised the public against the COVID-19 pandemic, calling on them to be proactive in the fight to combat the deadly virus in the country.

Also speaking, Mr Sunday Isokobo, the Vice Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Council, thanked the member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the state.

He said the gesture would help to reduce hunger in the local government and help those who might not be able to afford food during the sit-at-home directive by the state government.

Isokobo promised to share the palliatives to the most vulnerable persons in the local government.
