COVID-19: Kano ministries collaborate on control of biomedical waste

Kano State Ministry of Health, says it has adopted proactive measures to promote synergy with other ministries to enhance management of biomedical waste at the newly established Sani Abacha Stadium Isolation Centre.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Ibrahim Tsanyawa, made the disclosure during an inspection visit to the project site on Tuesday in Kano.
Our Correspondent reports that the 500-bed capacity COVID-19 Isolation centre was donated to the state by the business mogul, Aliko Dangote.
The project initiated few days ago had reached completion stage.
Tsanyawa, who is also the chairman of the Isolation Centre committee, said his ministry would collaborate with the Ministries of Environment, Works, Youth and Sports to fast track effective management of waste to be generated at the centre.
He commended the efforts of patriotic citizens of the state who donated to the cause on various ways, noting that the state government had scaled up campaign to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Also speaking, Mr Sunusu Ahmed, the Team Lead of the Dangote Foundation, said the centre was designed with 250 beds each for Male and Female Wards.
Ahmed said the remaining components of the projects such as cooling systems were yet to arrive the centre.
Our Correspondent reports that in spite of the Kano’s zero status of COVID-19, the state government had intensified campaign activities against the pandemic since the first case of the disease was reported in the country.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje has deployed three-step strategy to combat the spread of the virus, which include prevention, curative and palliative measures, respectively.
