A Bauchi based Non Governmental Organisation, NGO; Bauchi South Youth Initiative (BSYI) has expressed concern over how the money given by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara for empowerment purposes is being shared in his Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro federal constituency and the state at large.
The Coordinator of BSYI, Mr. Daure David Yankoli said at a parley he held with journalists in Bauchi that, “Our NGO and other indigenous Civil Society Groups are being systematically schemed out of beneficiaries of the Speaker’s generous gesture despite fulfilling all the required criteria for accessing the funds”.
According to him, BSYI as an indigenous NGO, whose area of competence cut across Health, Education, Sanitation and Empowerment, has the capacity to implement the empowerment program as envisioned by Speaker Dogara.
“We have implemented several empowerment programs in some communities in Bauchi state before and so we have the expertise and technical capacity to do even better because of the experience we garnered in the course of implementing such programs”, Yankoli stated.
Yankoli therefore called on the Speaker to caution the people saddled with the responsibility of sharing the money and to also carry along civil society groups in the implementation of the empowerment program.
The BSYI coordinator opined, “Indigenous NGOs like BSYI that have been impacting positively in the lives of hard-to-reach communities should be carried along in the implementation of the empowerment program because of its experience”.
All efforts to reach the Speaker Dogara for reaction through his aides were futile at the time of filing this report.
