By Sule  ALIYU,  Bauchi

A political pressure group, Borno Youth Progressives Forum has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency declare state of emergency in Borno state.

The state chairman of the group, Maina Bukar said the declaration of the state of emergency in Borno state by the federal government becomes imperative following the incessant activities of Boko Haram in the state.

Bukar, in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi Sunday on his way to Maiduguri, noted that the crusade to bring to an end the insurgents’ activities in Borno state by the Kashim Shettima-led administration leaves much to be desired, hence the group’s uproar for the state of emergency in Borno.

The group chairman further appeal to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to act swiftly to their plea by ensuring that a state of emergency is declared in Borno state within the shortest possible time.

Maina Bukar recalled the recent Boko Haram insurgents’ attacks in parts of the state, particularly the state capital, Maiduguri that threatens the lives of people, putting them in trouble waters, holding them in fear against livelihood.

“We urge the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to waste no time in declaring state of emergency in Borno state to save lives and property of innocent citizens”, Bukar cried.

He commended the efforts of the military and other security outfits in curtailing the menace of insurgents in Borno state, and urged them not to relent in securing peace for the trouble state.
