FRCN workers protest colonial equipment, welfare peaceful

IN Kaduna, workers’ protest at the premises of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Zonal Office, over what was described as obsolete equipment was attended by a large number of staff.

Addressing members, the chairmen of Radio and Television Workers Union, RATWAWU, Senior Staff Association ,SSA, and Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, of FRCN chapel expressed displeasure that the station was still working with the equipment procured under colonial rule, saying they are outdated and no longer useful in getting the best in this digital era of broadcasting.

NUJ chapel Chairman, Salisu Buhari said the nationwide protest was part of the arrangement made in their in house unions summit in Ilorin, Kwara State, even as he also advocated for good welfare packages and allowances for staff motivation.

Responding, the Zonal Director, Kaduna Zonal Station, Buhari Auwalu commended the staff for making the protest very peaceful and promised to deliver all their demands to the appropriate authorities.

The two hours protest started and ended in the premises of the radio station, Dahiru Modibo House, Independence Way, Kaduna.
