The suspense over the candidature of Professor Babagana Umaru Zullum as the governorship standard bearer for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Borno state has been put to rest with the presentation of the candidate to President Muhammad Buhari by Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima.
Governor Shettima along with all three senators from Borno state were at the Presidential villa, to seek presidential blessings and to assure the President that all party stakeholders are on the same page.
Insider sources told National Trail that President Muhammad Buhari was highly elated with the choice of Professor Zullum, after Governor Shettima reeled out his resume and character traits.
President Muhammad Buhari went on to lift up Professor Babagaba Zullum’s hand, before the camera, signifying his official endorsement.
Yesterday’s action has also put paid to rumours of further impending issues over Professor Zullum’s choice, even as it gave indications of a statewide acceptance, with the presence if all three senators from Borno, some of whom contested the primaries with him.
Our correspondent reports that, unlike other state governors, Kashim Shettima conducted one if the mist transparent and free governorship primaries, at which Professor Umara Zullum emerged winner, with over 4000 votes.
Some of the aspirants had put up initial protests, but after weeks if intense reconciliation by the Governor, all the other aspirants accepted Zullum’s candidature, and have since pledged to work for his victory.
These developments are coming at a time the crisis in the main opposition camp, the PDP seems to be deepening.
In the meantime, all now looks set for the Governor to spearhead the campaigns for the elections next year, even as opposition candidates seem to be developing cold feet following the APC’s new found spirit of reconciliation.
