Gov. Zulum And The Impeachment Hoax

By: Inuwa Bwala

Babagana Umara Zulum, Professor and Governor of Borno state may not be an orator, but his deliveries are always captivating, and I think he was at his best as I watched the live broadcast of a book launch, at which he held the audience spell bound with brilliant postulations on the challenges of leadership in Nigeria. I was so facinated with the presentation and did not browse to read the day’s news on my phone, untill somebody called to inform me that there was a piece of story trending on the social media, to the effect that there was a plot to impeach Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum.
My first reaction was to ignore it, as part of the antics that are bound to play out in the politics of 2023. I know that such contemplation is the biggest joke of this democratic era. But who could be behind such a mischief, is perhaps the biggest probe in analysing the joke. knowing that it must be a hoax.
I did not make contacts to verify, neither do I feel the need to reach out for official reactions, yet I know that what I feared may form part of the political events in Borno in the day’s ahead may be already playing out.
I am aware that there have been political alignments and realignments amongst different sub group ahead of 2023, all targeted at how some people could be brought back into political reckoning, having been pushed to the back seat. This is even as Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s growing profile in national politics, seems to be unsettling some others.
I am happy that, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the RT. Honorable Abdulkareem has since denied that there was ever any such contemplation by the assembly. Pleasing as his clarification may be, there is the need to not only caution those promoting this hate in Government, but to put citizens on alert, on the need to watch out for for desperate power grappers, who may attempt to sell a devilish agenda, aimed at diverting Governor Zulum from achieving what he set out to achieve.
Threats of Impeachment, even if there was any such threat may not mean anything to a Governor who has even put his life on the line in the pursuit of the peace of Borno. Perhaps, those who promote such feelings or dream of ever having their ways with it, may have to look for a saner means of protesting against the Governor’s unrivalled leadership steps.
I may not have to mention names, but suffice it to say, that those who seek to be men of all seasons in the politics of Borno state, nay Nigeria, should better realize that this is a more enlightened era, with zero tolerance for blackmail and brigandage.
I dare say that the people of Borno are resolved to swim and sink with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. This fight is more for the people than it is for the Governor or the Government of the day. There is no amount of mischief that can cut the ice; not with Zulum as Governor. The stubborn fly often ends up with the corpse in a coffin.
