A Civil Society Organisation known as Talakawa’s Parliament has, gaven governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, 7 days ultimatum to reopen the state-owned 5 Star Central Hospital built by his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole and commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016.

The group also called on the governor to reopened the state-owned tertiary institutions under luck and key in this his administration.

Addressing journalists on Thursday in Benin City, Talakawa’s Parliament leader, Kola Edokpayi said with the huge amount appropriated for the 5 Star Central Hospital and Obaseki as Economic and Strategic Team under the previous adminstration, he, Obaseki can not distance himself from the hospital project.

“In 2014, Edo State government appropriated the sum of 1.6 billion naira for the project. Un 2015 another 3.5 billion was also appropriated. In 2016 another 5.1 billion naira was also appropriated.

“When governor Godwin Obaseki took over from Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, five days after the hospital was commissioned, he appropriated another 500 million naira in the 2017 budget for same hospital that he has refused to open despite the fact that government is a continuous process.

“We expect Godwin Obaseki to consolidate the projects executed by his predecessor putting into perspective that he was the head of Economic and Strategic Team during the tenure of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. There is no way governor Godwin can distance himself from the 5 star hospital”, Kola Edokpayi added.

Speaking on insecurity in the state, Edokpayi called on the governor to use the billions allocated for security votes to provide security for the masses partucularly farmers who are victim of herdsmen attack.

On a recently made law in which the State House of Assembly criminalised electricity theft, Kola Edokpayi bemoaned the act, saying ” it is obvious that the State House of Assembly members are working with Funke Osibundu to send Edo people to prison.

He added,”Just this week, the House of Assembly turned house of darkness and gloom under the leadership of Alhaji Kabiri Adjoto passed into law the bill to criminalised electricity theft without considering the extortion and exploitation of Edo people by BEDC that cometh to steal, kill and destroy the people.”

He called on the state govenor, Godwin Obaseki to withhold his assent to the bill.
