Herdsmen Kill 11 In Nasarawa Attacks

Eleven people, including three operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force, SARS and eight farmers are feared killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a fresh attack on Maraba Udege community of Nasarawa State.

National Trail correspondent reports that, many houses belonging to farmers in nearby villages of  Aisa and Aguma have also been razed down in the midnight attack, while several villagers have fled the towns out of fear of further attacks.

Eye witnesses confirmed to our reporter that, the sleepy farming villages have seemingly been on the drawing board of the attackers, who stormed the villages ostensibly based on intelligence monitoring by the marauders.

National Trail gathered that, the SARS officers were ambushed while on their way to rescue the villages and restore law and order, leading to the death of three of them.

Confirming the incident to newsmen on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State, Ismaila Usman, ASP, explained that, initial cause of the fight was as a result of an earlier fight between a Fulani motor cyclist and an indigenous Agatu man, in which the Fulani man was wounded, and subsequenty reported back to his kins.

He said , on receiving reports of the attack on the community by the Fulani, apparently to avenge their own kinsman, the Police were drafted to the communities, where three of their men died in an ambush by the Fulani.

While normalcy has since returned to the affected communities, according to the police, the remains of their personnel, an Inspector a sergeant and a corporal have been recovered and deposited in the mortuary, even as the traditional ruler of Udege, Ahmed Kwanaki insited that eight of his people were actually killed and not five.

A visibly angry Kwanaki  called on the Government to do something drastic about the incessant attacks on communities by Fulani herdsmen, as it portends dangers to etno-religious harmony hitherto being enjoyed in Nasarawa State,

OIn the meantime, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the State, Hussaini Mohammed has pledged to assist the Police in arresting the culprits involved in the attacks, as their actions constitute an embarrassment to Fulanis in the country.
