I Inherited Only N50m In 2011– Al-Makura

Governor, Umar Al-makura of Nasarawa state has declared that he inherited only the sum of N50m when he assumed office in 2011 saying that this crippled his efforts to execute more projects that would have direct bearing to the lives of common man in the state.
“As only CPC government that came to the office without template or blue print to hold onto, things have become very difficult for me because I am one man standing”, he declared.
Governor Umar Al-makura stated this at a media chart to mark this year’s Democracy day held at Nasarawa state broadcasting services, Lafia where he responded to so many questions from journalists on the issue concerning his administration and people of the state since he assumed the mantle of leadership.
On the recent committee inaugurated by his administration to review workers salaries, Al-makura said he was left without any option than to review their salary considering the nation’s economic meltdown as a result of fall in price of crude oil at the international market.
He further informed the gathering that Nasarawa state is the highest in terms of payment of minimum wage to workers that has caused a lot of havoc in his quest to provide essential services to people.
He therefore advocated the need for stakeholders meeting to fine-tune the way out and how workers’ salaries would be slashed down as according to him when compared with the mega resources being collected from federation account, only workers who constituted only 1percent of the state population consumed 99percent of the allocation “which is not fair to other citizens.”
Speaking on local government, he described the third tire of government as a living corpse that people have seen as an avenue to enrich themselves and faulted e-banking system for promoting corruption among workers who will not come to work but at the end receive alert.
“Goat and Rat has taken over as staffers of local government due to absence and physical presence of human beings so to tell you that the system is fantastically dead”, he said.
Governor, Al-makura admitted that the salaries of local government workers remained N 2.2b since 2011 to date as he accused past leaders of including children even infants in the payroll.
Unemployment government has drawn a roadmap to pave way for engaging jobless youth into useful venture through various skills acquisition in other to drastically reduce the number of youth roaming the streets.
