Kebbi to disburse soft loan to farmers, traders

The Kebbi Government plans to disburse soft loan to farmers and traders in the state to cushion the effects of flood that affected farming activities in the state.

Alhaji Abubakar Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu, made this known in a statement in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

He said the governor announced the plan at ‘Yar-Yara in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of the state while interacting with rice farmers and sellers.

The chief press secretary said the rice sellers had requested for loan from the government to cushion the effect of recent flood in the state on them.

Dankingari said that the farmers also pleaded with the governor to prevail on the Federal Government, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid, to enable them recoup the losses incurred.

Atiku-Bagudu assured them of support but advised them to form cooperative societies for easy access to loan facilities.

He also advised them to channel their requests through Chairmen of their respective Local Governments or representatives in the State House of Assembly.

Some of the farmers appealed to the governor to provide more mini rice milling machines to them, to replace currennt manual processing of rice. (NAN)
