Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi has decried the menace of drug abuse and its effect on the youth and the society at large.

Mr Alabi spoke in Ilorin, the state capital, while receiving the Executives of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Kwara State Chapter led by its Chairman, Mr Kazeem Elewure in his office.

The Deputy Governor, who advocated a holistic approach of addressing the menace to safe the lives of addicts and make them useful citizens, offered quality education as panacea to the menace, including corruption that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.

Mr Alabi, who also condemned corruption and acquisition of wealth through illegal means, admonished the youth not to support corrupt politicians who have nothing good to offer but only to loot and impoverish them and the nation.

“When the youth support corrupt politicians, you are giving them wrong signal and also mortgaging your future. Corruption is a war all Nigerians should kick against in all ramifications”, the Deputy Governor explained.

He assured the Youth Forum of government support in exterminating drug abuse and corruption in the Society, while urging them to move closer to God and use their energy and strength to work for the development and progress of the State and the Nation.

The Chairman of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Mr Kazeem Elewure commended the State government for its achievements, urging it not to relent in this noble direction.

Mr Elewure said the menace of drug abuse has reached an alarming rate and, therefore, urged all stakeholders to partner government in its effort to eradicate the menace, assuring the state government of his Forum’s support in stemming the ugly tide.
