The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Office has urged residents of Kwara state to collaborate with the Commission to enable it win the fight against corruption in the state .

The Zonal Head of the Commission, Mr Isyaku Sharu, who made the call while delivering a paper at the 26th Kwara NUJ Media Parliament held in Ilorin, the state capital, said the residents should feel free to report any fraudulent activities to the Commission without any fear, while assuring them that such information would be given the highest level of confidentiality it deserves.

Mr Sharu explained that since inception of EFCC activities in the Zone, the Commission has secured several convictions as well as recovered large sums of money from some fraudulent individuals, adding that most of the properties seized have been forfeited to the federal government.

Mr Sharu advised the civil servants to desist from involving themselves in any act of corruption in the discharge of their duties, while assuring the residents of the state of the determination of the Commission to ensure the zone is rid of corruption.

In his remarks, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kwara state, Malam Garba Attahiru Madami, said corruption is a cankerworm that needed to be removed from the country’s polity, if Nigeria would make any meaningful progress.

He urged all stakeholders to collaborate and ensure the reduction of corruption in the society to the barest minimum by volunteering useful information about the activities of fraudulent individuals, lamenting that “in Nigeria, we worship and celebrate corruption and corrupt people, not minding how they acquired their wealth”.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman Kwara state Council of NUJ, Malam Umar Abdulwahab, had assured the EFCC of the Union’s collaboration and partnership towards ensuring that the fight against corruption is won on the state.

The theme of the media round table is Anti Corruption Fight in Nigeria: The Kwara state Experience.
