Kwara House Charges Ministry To Restore Sanity On Roads

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministries of Works and Transport and Environment as well as the State Road Maintenance Agency to restore sanity on all roads, especially on setbacks and walkways in the state capital.

The Legislature made the resolution in its Wednesday’s sitting while considering a Motion, titled” Checkmating Trading on Walkways in Ilorin Metropolis ” raised by a member representing Irepodun Constituency, Hon. Matthew Olaitan Babaoye.

Reading the resolutions of the House on the motion, the Deputy Speaker Elder Mathew Okedare, noted with displeasure that the habit of trading on walkways had become the order of the day in the state capital, thereby obstructing vehicular movements and adversely affecting the aesthetic value and beauty of Ilorin metropolis.

The Legislature also enjoined the State Ministry of Information and Communication to embark on advocacy in the mass media to sensitise the people on the dangers of trading on the walkways.

Hon. Babaoye had while raising the Motion noted that the habit had inhibit vehicular movements in the state capital and blamed relevant government agencies for non implementation of existing laws in checking the  trend.

Other members who contributed on the motion called on relevant government agencies to be alive to their responsibilities of enforcing existing laws, so as to restore sanity in the state capital.
