The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, Hon. Razak Atunwa has pledged to accelerate rural development and youth empowerment if elected as the state’s governor in the March 2, 2018 election.

Atunwa made the promise in the course of a stop-gap campaign in several communities in Ekiti local government area of the state on Tuesday.

The PDP candidate who expressed confidence about his programme of action for rural development said having been part of the executive and legislative arms of government he is coming more prepared than his opponents in the race.

“We will not abandon our rural communities, we will work to build rural roads and provide water for our communities and I can assure you that we will do everything possible to provide jobs for our youths”, he said at intervals during the trip.

He enjoined members of the party not to sell their voter cards in the coming election, saying they should instead use it boldly to install a government that will work for their welfare and development.

The PDP candidate pleaded for peace in the course of the campaign, saying there was no need to recourse to the kind of violence that was witnessed in parts of the state recently.

“We don’t need violence to win any election, our party is not associated with violence and so we plead with you all to eschew violence. Those who want to use violence for this election we know that God will not allow them to succeed”, he said.
