Kwara State government has reiterated its commitment to giving priority attention to education and capacity building of the people to drive development.
Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, who disclosed this on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital, at the commissioning of vocational materials donated by Rotary Club to the State Agency for Mass Education to mark this year’s International World Literacy Day, noted that quality education would positively change the mindsets of the people and ensure round development of the state and the nation.
The Deputy Governor assured the Agency of government support to adequately train the people and reduce illiteracy level in the State, while urging the beneficiaries of the vocational materials to make good use of them towards making them self reliant.
Executive Director of the State Agency for Mass Education, Hajia Fatima Oba-Banu, who highlighted the functions and activities of the Agency, appreciated all stakeholders for their support, and called on the State government to assist the Agency especially with the provision of operational vehicle, conducive office and payment of facilitators and instructors.
The President of Rotary Club, Ilorin, Mr Ayo Olagunju said the Club would continue to partner the government and relevant agencies in the bid to make life better for the people.
Earlier in their remarks, the sponsors SEAP and Lubcon, had pledged to partner government in its drive to ensure growth and development of the State.
Items donated included Sewing and Knitting Machines, White Boards and Shoe Making Equipment.
