The Nigeria Legion Corp of Commissionaires has made a passionate appeal to the three tiers of government as well as well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of 28 ex-service men who were in dire need of synthetic artificial limbs due to injuries they suffered while serving their fatherland.
The Commandant General / National Chairman of the Legion, Col. Micah Gayyah (rtd) made the appeal in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, at the passing out parade of first batch of the newly trained cadets of the Legion and empowerment of widows of the fallen military personnel.
Gayya said each of the synthetic limbs needed by the amputated military men costs about N300, 000; an amount he said was beyond what the Legion could afford.
According to him, many of the amputees, some of whom he said fought in the Second World War were still using wooden limbs which had become a burden for them to drive because of their age.
He said the legion would continue to do all within its reach to make life better for the ex-service men and their widows.
The Legion Chairman urged governments at all levels and corporate organisations to patronise the newly trained cadets by engaging them in security jobs for them to make ends meet.
He however cautioned the cadets not to go beyond their mandate, warning that they have no power to carry weapons and must not wear uniform except they are on duty.
State Commander of the Legion, Peter Raymond charged the newly cadets to discharge their duties within the limit of the mandate for which they were trained.
