Nasarawa NUJ: Credential committee promises credible election

The Credential Committee for the forthcoming election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa state council, has promised to conduct free, fear, credible and transparent poll.

Mr Ibrahim Dauda, Chairman of the committee stated this in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia, at the end of the screening exercise for candidates vying for various positions.

Our correspondent reports that the election has been slated for April 16.

According to Dauda, the committee as an arbiter, have on preference for any candidate or group of candidates in the election, hence would provide a level playing field for all candidates.

“We would adhere strictly to the provision of the NUJ constitution in conducting the election.

“We intend to use this election to set a standard of peaceful and credible election for others to follow, especially politicians,” the Chairman said.

Dauda expressed satisfaction with the conducts of the candidates so far and called on them to go about their campaigns without rancour and bitterness.

“Your campaigns should be issue-based and devoid of character assassination,” he urged.

Mr Salihu Alkali of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Precious FM, Lafia, who is also a Chairmanship candidate, expressed satisfaction with the screening exercise.

Alkali promised to revive the union’s Press Centre , ensure unity among members and restore dignity in the profession by ensuring productivity in line with the ethics of the profession, if elected.
