NDLEA files drug trafficking charge against cobbler

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday, filed one-count charge of alleged trafficking in 600g of cannabis in a Federal High Court Lagos.

In the charge sheet filed by Mr Jeremiah Aernan, the anti drug agency alleged that the suspect  committed the offence on Feb. 13.

Aernan alleged that the suspect was arrested in Ijegun Market in the Alimosho area Lagos, while selling the banned substance.

According to prosecution, Hemp is a banned narcotics similar to Heroine and other restricted hard drugs which are all listed in the NDLEA schedule as being prohibited.

The offence, contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.

The Act provides a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence.

No date has been fixed for arraignment of the suspect.
