The Governing Board, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has approved the promotion of 99 Command Officers.

NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr Jonah Achema said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Achema said that the promotion which was released on Saturday included that of Mr Sunday Nbona who rose to Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN) from Assistant Commander General of Narcotics (ACGN).

“Nbona who was the Chief of Staff to NDLEA Chairman and Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, became the first Commander of the Agency to be promoted to the rank of DCGN.

“Others promoted are five Commanders of Narcotics (CN) who are now ACGN, while 33 Deputy Commanders of Narcotics (DCN) are now Commanders of Narcotics.

“Also, 60 Assistant Commanders of Narcotics, (ACN) were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commander of Narcotics; this brings the total number of officers promoted to 99,’’ he said.

Achema said that the NDLEA Chairman, retired Col. Muhammad Abdallah while congratulating the officers, urged them to continue to distinguish themselves.

“He said that the promotion was in recognition of their outstanding performance over the years.

“It is expected that it will spur them to put in their best in the service of the agency and the nation.

“This exercise marks the final lap of the comprehensive promotion exercise commenced by the agency two years ago,’’ he said.

NAN reports that at the commencement of the promotion in 2018, six Commanders of Narcotics (CN) were promoted to the rank of ACGN while five others were elevated to CN.

A total of 1, 311 officers including those in rank and file were promoted to their next ranks, while 2, 788 others were promoted following a promotion examination.
