Niger Builds, Renovates 200 Schools for Next Academic Session

In preparation for the 2017/2018 academic session, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State is constructing new and renovating blocks of classrooms in 200 public basic schools across the state during this summer holiday.

This project is to complement the 270 schools earlier constructed and renovated in the 25 local government areas of the state in the last two years of the administration.

This development was contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr. Jide Orintunsin, the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor in Minna, the state capital.

According to the statement, the construction and renovation of the schools which cut across the basic education level was in fulfillment of Governor Sani Bello’s restoration agenda for the education sector following decades of neglect by past administrations.

Work has since stated in all the affected schools on the orders of Governor Sani Bello who directed that constructions and renovations works in the schools should be completed on or before the 25th of September school’s resumption date to enable returning pupils assess to their classrooms for the new academic session.

Earlier, the administration under the “Whole School Renovation Approach” Scheme had carried out total rehabilitation of nine secondary schools, three in each of the three senatorial districts, with state of the art classrooms, laboratories, workshops, hostels and staff quarters to boost teaching and learning.

Seven critical primary schools were also rehabilitated under the Whole School Renovation Approach across the three geopolitical zones of the state.

Government constructed and renovated blocks of classrooms, offices, stores and toilets in 88 primary and junior secondary schools in eight local government areas of Niger South Senatorial district and 82 similar schools built and rehabilitated in nine councils of Niger East Senatorial district.

In Niger North Senatorial zone, 81 primary and junior secondary schools were also constructed and renovated in the last two years by the government.

The statement further said that government had supplied 22,738 teachers and pupil chairs and tables to the various schools within the lifespan of the administration.
