Nigerian Students and Youth Association (NISAYA), Edo State council on Wednesday gave 72 hours to the State government to address its members on the challenges facing the state owned tertiary institutions.

by its State chairman, Comrade Osamudiamen Ogbidi, called on the government to repeal the law establishing Tayo Akpata University of Education.
The students also wants the government to set up a committee that would look into the challenges and proffer a date to end the problems.
They insisted that if their demands were not met within the time frame, “we shall not hesitate to mobilize the over 1.4 million Nigerian students across the State and South – South zone in condemnation of the poor state of tertiary institutions and students’ welfare in Edo State”.
The group said, “If the government is interested in a degree awarding institution, the College of Education, Ekiadolor should be upgraded to a dual mode status or affiliated to a State
owned University like Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma to be able to award degrees.
They condemned the continuous closure of the College of Education, Ekiadolor, College of Agriculture Iguoriakhi, School of Nursing Benin and the non take off of the Tayo Akpata University of Education four years after its establishment.
The students also appealed to the government to commence the process of paying bursary allowances to indigenes of the state just as they called on the government to compel the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission to pay bursary or scholarship to students of the oil producing local governments.
