PAL Pensions trains students on financial literacy, employability Training

Experts in various careers on Thursday in Ilorin mentored students of the University of Ilorin on financial literacy, investment, entrepreneurship and career growth among others.

The programme tagged NEXTU is sponsored by the Pension Alliance Limited, a Pensions Fund Administrator (PFA).

Panelists, who came from various backgrounds provided the students required knowledge and guidance for unleashing potential in finances, entrepreneurship, technology, new media, entertainment and life choices.

Among the panelists included Tobi Bakare, a financial expert and a housemate in the Big Brothers Naija Reality Show; Oluyomi Ojo, a young entrepreneur; Joel Ogunshola, the Special Assistant on Innovations and Partnership to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state.

Others were Oluwatosin Olasiende, a financial analyst and Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice, who is an award winning musician among others.

They all talked on tips to be successful in any chosen careers and businesses, how to manage funds and how to invest wisely with small funds.

Speaking on the rationale behind the project, Ms Sunmisola Mark-Okoma, the Head, Brand Management and Corporate Communications of PAL Pensions said that the initiative was a Corporate Social Responsibility of the PFA.

According to her, it is aimed at teaching the youth in the country on financial literacy and employability, having observed gap among the youth.

“We noticed that there is a gap amongst the youth because most people have talent to make money and get rich.

“However, to become wealthy requires another set of skills to enable the money work for you and that is what we are trying to teach the students here”, he said.

Mark-Okoma, who asserted that they had been to ten Federal Universities under the second edition of the programme, said it was aimed at avoiding mistakes of the past among the younger generation.

She also explained that another initiative called NEXTU Academy targeted at final year students of universities was also in the pipeline.

Under this initiative, she said that graduates in their national service would have opportunity to work and earn.
