With a call for public memoranda for the review of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria by the Senate, the Plateau Our Heritage, POH, is proposing a powerful team to reflect it’s interests in the proposed amendment.
The deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege had issued a statement in that regard which he noted was for “further alteration ” of the document.
The undated “call for memoranda ” therefore urged all interest groups to submit their memoranda on or before the expiration of 14 days within which the call will elapsed or better still, via the electronic media.
The POH which has before now, muted an idea to have a “political think tank” saw the invitation by the Senate as a welcome development and has provoked it into proposing a committee that would respond to the invitation.
As a result, a well grounded committee has been proposed and with look of things, the members of the POH are very much comfortable with.
In a list forwarded for consideration by the secretary Friday Bako, two former national assembly members and a onetime Comptroller of Immigration who was the Plateau central senatorial candidate of the PDP in last year’s election featured prominently.
As Chairman is Nankin Bagudu, a former Commissioner in the state and Chief Akuns JS who stand in as Deputy Chairman, while the Secretariat is headed by Barr. Toma Taddy.
Members include Hon. Lumumba Dah Adeh, Prof. Francis Kwede, Hon. Bitrus Kaze, Dr Austin Azi, Hon. Gideon Dung Dandereng, Pastor. Ezekiel foron, Barr. James Vwi and
Prof. Shedrack Best, former SSG in the state.
Others are Shikfu Paradang, Barr Isaac Dimka, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, a serving Nass member, Hon. Idi Waziri, Dr. Chalya Lar, Hon. Barr. Solomon Dalung, former minister; Ms Helen Dabup, Barr Mike Alloy Dawam and Dr Samson Dashit.
Resource persons in the committee are Dr Plangsat Bitrus Dayil, Jibrin Watle, Fidelis Longban, Arc Sam Jatau and James Magit.
In its wisdom, the POH further considered it’s members in Diaspora to form part of the team.
These include B. S Moltok,
Machunga Lois, Pam Alex Dr., Dusu katchollom, Talatu Inusa and Paul Gimsay.
However, the College Of Admin., COA, of the POH has nominated specially, it’s Chairman, Hon. Alex Kwapnoe and Convener, Hon. Dagwong Pam Ayuba to partake in the review exercise.
Others on the team are: AMB. Kasai Ibrahim, Dr. Hanza Sumaye, Gen. Jon Temlong (Rtrl), Barr. Solomon Dalyop, Hon. Diket Plang and
Nanle Gujor.
As the term of reference, the committee would among other things; interrogate the plateau question, especially with rising agitations in all regions of Nigeria for a possible separation and if Plateau will be ready in an event of any eventuality?
Also, it would recommend the way foward as well as disect past reports and explain the inability of regimes’ failure to implement those reports.
“To recommend a position to be adopted by plateau state and its patriotic citizens as to what manner of government best suits it at federal, state and local levels” and to suggest to POH, means towards achieving this recommendations among others.
