Police, PCRC other stakeholders hold workshop on security in Bauchi

Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in collaboration with the Bauchi State ‎ ‎Police command and other stakeholders in have held a security awareness workshop.

The workshop was held in Bauchi to‎ sensitise the public on security consciousness and prevent crimes in communities.

In his remarks, the state police commissioner, Sunusi Lemu commended the state PCRC for organising the workshop and their cooperation and support to the police to carry out their task of protecting lives and properties.

“The workshop is timely considering the emergent trends of some violent crimes confronting the nation which Bauchi State is not an exception, though minimally affected”, he said.

He added that the workshop will avail participants and all other stakeholders with ways to promote security and prepare them for challenges.

On his part, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar said that his administration is conscious of the importance of security for the socio-economic wellbeing of the people and development of the state.

The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Nadada Umar promised that his government will continue to cooperate with the police and other sister security agencies in the state to ensure the adequate protection of lives and properties.‎

He said that the administration will also introduce programmes and policies that will support the efforts of security agencies in their operations in the state.

In his opening remarks, the state PCRC chairman, Abdullahi Maigari Misau disclosed that the workshop was the second organised by the Bauchi state PCRC on community policing.

“The cardinal objective of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) was the partnership with the Nigerian Police to enhance cordial police Public relationship ‎in crime prevention. Enhance public safety and security of lives and properties through active participation in Nigeria Police program that have direct bearing on community policing”, he said.

Presenting a paper titled: “Community Crime‎ Prevention Tips\’, a security expert, Titus Ibi outlined some important aspects of crime prevention in communities.”

Quoting Rosenbaum he said: “Community crime prevention is based upon the premise that private citizens can play a major role in preventing crime in their neighbourhood. Community crime prevention programs focus on increasing the participation of individual citizens, small groups and voluntary community organisations in activities designed to reduce crime and to improve the quality of neighbourhood life.‎

Personalities including the governor\’s wife, Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar; the secretary to the state government, Mohammed Nadada Umar and others were presented with various awards for their contributions towards maintenance of security in the state.
