POWA empowers 300 widows, orphans in Kaduna

Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), on Saturday empowered no fewer than 300 widows, orphans and less privileged families of deceased officers in Kaduna State.

The Chairperson, Kaduna State Chapter of POWA, Hajiya Aisha Muri announced this during the third phase of Police Widows Empowerment Programme in Kaduna.

Muri identified some of the items delivered to the beneficiaries to include 30  machines for production of spaghetti, 17  machines for production of popcorn, 10 sewing machines, 10 Grinding machines and 10 hair drying machines.

Others were  seven ovens, four sealing machines, 130 bags of maize and 50 women wrappers.

“We have also made available, special packages for 10 outstanding and most performing members of this association,” she said.

According to her, POWA has been at the forefront of rendering selfless services, adding that their collective effort assisted in improving the quality of lives of the poor and needy.

On his part, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command, AIG Umar Muri, commended POWA for the gesture and pledged to support five widows monthly, even after leaving Kaduna.
