Ahead of the 2019 General Elections in Nigeria, a Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Prof. Mahmood Muhibeedeen Aliyu, has decried the woes that have befallen the country over the years, lamenting that “it is pathetic that today we watch helplessly as the entire citizenry have been subjected to all types of inhuman treatment and we are all living under constant threat to our lives.”
He said: “We need to break from the past and present political misfortune and lay a solid political, social and economic foundation on a new slate that can stand the test of time for the future progress of this country.”
While declaring his aspiration to contest for the highest office in the country in 2019 while addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on Saturday, Prof Aliyu promised that upon the inauguration of a PRP administration at the centre in 2019, an executive order would be signed declaring a two years state of emergency on education to enable a thorough surgical operation to be performed on the country’s education system.
During the state of emergency period, he assured the electorate that 30% of the country’s annual national budget would be allocated to education, which, he said, would be properly utilised, monitored and accounted for, adding that during the same period 15% of the budget would be allocated to the health sector.
He said: “PRP government in the centre under our supervision, will work towards cutting down the high cost of governance that we are now battling with.
“Rather than fighting corruption, the PRP administration at the centre under our watch will tackle the elements that breed corruption through, among others, public declaration of assets, stoppage/abolition of discriminate salary system, monitoring of individual investments and banning of private practice by government employees.
“Nigeria is set for a new dawn, let us all rise to the occasion and take this country to the Promised Land and realise this dream during Oye life time.”
On security votes being collected by governors and probably the President, the Presidential Aspirant said this should be stopped and allocated directly to security agencies to enhance security across the country. He decried money politics, saying it would not lead the country to anywhere that is good, while preventing the choice of good people to rule the country.
