A pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), has urged the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Kwara state
Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, to obey court judgement by restoring the status
of Oba of Jebba, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adebara.
Felicitating with the Senate President and Governor
Ahmed on Saraki’s acquittal by the Supreme Court on alleged false assets declaration, the group enjoined the duo, in the interest of equity, justice and fair play, to do same for the over 90 years old monarch.
It would be recalled that a Kwara state High Court on January 29th, 2014 affirmed Oba Adebara as
the legitimate Oba of Jebba of third class status.
The group’s spokesperson in Kwara state, Comrade Jaiyeoba Omotosho said: “As Senator Saraki and Governor Ahmed continue to bask in the euphoria
of that acquittal, ARG wishes to remind them that the Senate President’s judicial victory
they both verily relish in now is precisely what they have jointly denied the good people of Moro local government area since 1997 and 2014 in respect of two Kwara state High Court judgments which they refused to
“In spite of the malicious nature of the arraignment of the monarch for allegedly illegally parading himself as Oba of Jebba and his eventual incarceration for 19 days, yet the Kwara state government has
refused to pay his salaries and allowances of 15 years, despite the court judgement.
“Their continued disobedience of court judgments poses a serious
moral and legal question to both Senator Saraki and Governor Ahmed, as those who clamour for justice must also be ready to dispense justice to others. Or how would Dr. Saraki have felt, if after rigorous litigation, he was denied the fruit of his judicial success.
“ARG hereby calls on the duo to immediately set in motion the full
implementation of the two court judgments cited above. Civilised
societies thrive on the rule of law as against the rule of the thumb.”
