Save Our Souls, Uselu Psychiatric Hospital Staff Tells Adewole

A group of whistleblowers at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin city, Edo State, have petitioned the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole on the crisis which has been rocking the establishment since 2012.

The petition is a follow up to an earlier one addressed to the minister on 19th February, 2016 but which was not attended to.

Going down memory lane, the petitioners alleged that they have suffered series of maltreatment, intimidation, harassment and the likes for daring to challenge what they tagged the dubious appointment of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu and his infractions ranging from maladministration to other vices.

In the petition addressed to the minister for health and signed by doctor Ambrose Lawani, former head Residency Training/ Forensic Unit, Consultant Special Grade and others, disclosed ” that in the course of the war waged against them by the CMD, one of their co-travelers, Barrister Peter Olusesan Esan, a level 17 officer, a director and former head of pharmacy department died”.

They also alleged that “others have been sacked illegally and been hounded by thugs on the pay roll of the hospital’s management.”

The petitioners alleged that, “the embattled CMD, whose four year tenure has lapsed since March 2016, has continued to sit tight in the position even as several complaints have been lodged with the Federal Ministry of Health on the impropriety of such elongated stay in office.”

“We are doing this reminder to you because of the confidence we have in your ability to intervene by giving us reprieve from our tormentors by effecting our reinstatement as staff of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin as well as the payment of our withheld salaries and allowances,” they pleaded.

They also called on the minister “to revisit, exhume and implement the Federal Ministry of Health 2011 panel report of Rabi Adamu (mni) and the numerous petitions of fraudulent acts by Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu which have been covered up.”
