Shun Materialism while serving God, Cleric tells Catholic faithful

By   Sule   Aliyu, Bauchi

As Catholics the world over celebrate the beginning of advent in
preparation towards the birth of Christ, they have been called upon to be vigilant and not be swayed by materialism and the cares of the
world.

The priest in charge of Holy family Catholic Church Bauchi, Rev Fr. Bitrus Lange stated this during his homily to celebrate the advent season.

He explained that Advent is a time of expectation, longing and
desiring   Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and saviour.
He enjoined faithful to look back on past behaviours and amend their ways adding that Advent is not a time physical preparedness but spiritual journey that will help them, to receive the grace and mercy of the Almighty.

He observed with dismay that most people only prepare what they will wear and eat during Christmas not their spiritual wellbeing and cautioned them to remain focus and vigilant as the evil one is out to destroy them.

Lange further added that expectation during advent should arouse in them the thirst and willingness to accept God.
He said Christians should be willing to forsake their sinful ways so that Christ will dwell in them this season of advent.

According to fr. Lange, God is ever faithful and will not change and this is the right time to refresh their relationship with God and grow in Him.
