The Aminu Tambuwal administration has spent over N9.2 billion in the agricultural sector since the assumption of office in Sokoto State two years ago and arrangements have reached advanced stage to access N3 billion commercial agricultural credit scheme for farmers in the state.
The Commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities of his ministry include the procurement of 500 trucks of fertilizer for the 2017 wet season farming at the cost of N1.65 billion and 600 trucks of fertilizer for the year 2015 and 2016 at the cost N2.47billion.
According to him, the state government also paid counterpart funding of N1.2 billion to Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) for the rehabilitation of Wurno Dam and control of erosion/flood that affected 4,000 farmers in the area.
State support for the CBN Anchor Borrower Programme (ABP) received N1.6 billion while FADAMA 111 additional financing gulped N714.74 million.
According to him, the Community Based Agricultural and Rural Development Programme (CBARDP) which received a total l counterpart funding of N175 million benefited 482,386 farmers, created 27,166 jobs and provided 875 km of access roads and 3,000 water points for the use of humans and livestock.
