Sokoto To Construct 250 Solar Boreholes

Sokoto State Government is to embark on the construction of 250 solar powered water projects across the 23 local government areas of the state in an effort to ensure the provision of potable water to every part of the state.

Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar, who spoke while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting, said that the contract sum would be paid to the contractor within 24 months on the basis of N184 million per month.

Alhaji Abubakar who was accompanied by his Finance and Animal and Fishery counterparts, Alhaji Saidu Umar and Tukur Alkali, respectively, stated that the state government would take advantage of every opportunity to improve the living conditions of the citizenry.

According to him, the meeting also approved the construction of a N327 million ultra modern library complex for the state university in tandem with the requirements of the National University Commission (NUC).

Also approved was the sum of N337 million for irrigation activities in Rabah local government area as well as the ratification of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the state government and a private organic fertilizer firm on the basis of 40 per cent and 60 per cent share holding respectively.
