Student leaders urge Dickson to join Bayelsa West senatorial race

Student leaders from the Bayelsa West Senatorial District of Bayelsa State have urged the immediate past governor of the state, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson to join the race for the vacant Senatorial seat in the National Assembly.

In a statement signed by the chairman, Students Consultative forum, University of Africa Toru-Orua, Comrade Resident Bolouarrkemefa, on behalf of various students leaders in different higher institutions across the country, the group noted that sequel to the declaration of the National Assembly that the Bayelsa West Senatorial seat is  vacant, the former governor should run for the position.

According to students, due to the election and subsequent swearing-in of Lawrence Ehrudjakpor as deputy governor of Bayelsa State who was until February 14, 2020 the senator representing the Bayelsa West Senatorial district the office has been lying vacant.

The students said as a matter of necessity they find the immediate past governor of the state, Dickson worthy and highly qualified to contest for Bayelsa West senatorial seat urging him to incubate the idea as the state waits the schedule of elections by INEC.

The students who equivocally called on him to prepare himself for the national assignment in the Senate urged him to further push for the Ijaw agenda and bring his robourts ideas in governance and effectively represent the people of the senatorial district.

Furthermore, the group stressed their conviction beyond reasonable doubts that the former governor is fit for the national assignment with his experience in the House of Representatives before coming to serve the state for eight years that ushered in unprecedented development in all sectors of the state.

The group stated that this is a clarion call to him on the premise of his past developmental strides that will predate several generations in Bayelsa West Senatorial district and Bayelsa at large.

They outlined some notable achievements of the former governor which includes Bayelsa West road,  establishment of the University of Africa Toru-orua, Bayelsa State Polytechnic Aleibiri, Bayelsa Students Loan Scheme, and numerous primary and secondary school buildings and facilities.

Against the backdrop of his achievements, the student representative added that they are convinced that Dickson will make a great senator, and has promised to contribute to buy him the nomination form when the need arises.

The group however called on the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to give Hon. Dickson an automatic ticket given his loyalty and support to the party.
