Tafiya Lafiya hits Abuja Theatre with original title, The Journey

In less than a month after its premiere, Tafiya Lafiya, a musical hits the theatre again in Abuja but with its original title, The Journey as part of effort to reach global audience.

Announcing the date for the next performance to newsmen in Abuja, Adedoyin Kugbiyi, playwright, director and team lead of SAK Production said the performance will come under its original title, The Journey on November 7, 2019 at Rockview Royale Hotel, Abuja by 6pm.

According to Kugbiyi, the performance is in partnership with the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO and Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to amplify the central theme of the play that focuses on irregular migration, human trafficking, brain drain syndrome and agricultural development.

The partnership seeks to empower young people in Africa through media and communication on irregular migration and for young persons to stay in the country and contribute their quota towards national development and prosperity.

Kugbiyi said that the musical is coming with its original title The Journey when he first conceived in 2018 saying that the cast and crew during the rehearsals for its premiere in October came up with Tafiya Lafiya meaning ‘Safe Journey’ in Hausa to strike and appeal to the audience.

He explained that its partnership with UNESCO and Italian Agency for Development, there was need to give the musical its original title explaining that since the audience of the partners are global and wants easy understanding for them.

The play is written with thirteen original songs blended in comedy and drama produced with an original cast of 18 actors, three backups and five accompanying instrumentalists, it draws attention to prevailing social issues from irregular migration, labour crises, exchange of money for marriage by parents which climaxed in the definition of true love.

However, Kugbiyi said the performance is free entry at the Rockview Royale Hotel in Abuja by 6pm.
