Time not yet ripe to declare my stand on 2019 – Tambuwal

By Najem Francis, Sokoto

The Governor of Sokoto State, Barrister Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has said that the time was not yet ripe to declare his stand on the upcoming 2019 general elections.

The governor, who spoke during an interactive session with correspondents, said those clamouring for political activities should know that governance and political activities cannot go together because they are both full time.

According to him, it was therefore distracting to mandate holders to be talking about reelection now when there is still more than one year for anybody to declare his political interest.

“I don’t encourage anybody to distract us from governance mode to politics mode. I will declare my stand at the appropriate time”, he stated.

Tambuwal said that despite paucity of funds, his policy of completing inherited ongoing projects was on course, adding that the Independent Power Project (IPP), meat and dairy project as well as road network were receiving priority attention.

He said that although the IPP was now more than 80% completed still required N1.7billion to complete the government was committed to completing it in the next six to eight months so that the huge amount already invested on it would not go down the drain.

He said that in compliance with President Buhari’s directive, the state government spent its share of the Paris Club refund on worker’s welfare including up to date payment of their salaries and gratuity   at the state and local government levels as well as embarking on some capital projects.

He said that Sokoto which is one of the front line states in terms of desert encroachment was yet to receive anything from the ecological fund but assured that there would be massive reforestation programme whenever the funds were provided.

Answering a question on the impact of the Buhari administration in Sokoto State, Tambuwal said that the people of the state were not excluded from benefitting in the gains of fulfilling the cardinal campaign promises which included the war against insurgency, fight against corruption and fixing the economy.
