Trade and Industry Minister To Declare Open Wuye Market Christmas Fair

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Oke Elenamah is expected to declare open a seven day Christmas Trade Fair being organized by the traders of the Wuye Ultra Modern Market.
The Chairman, Planning Committee of the Trade Fair, Mr. Joe Wenegieme told Journalists at a press briefing that the Christmas Trade Fair which is expected to run from 9th to 16th December is part of the awareness campaign by the developers of the market, All Purpose Shelters Limited.
According to the Planning Committee Chairman, the fair would concentrate more on made in Nigeria goods and Agriculture in line with the diversification policy of the federal government as well as encourage local investors to grow.
While calling on Abuja residents to turn out en mass and avail themselves the opportunity of the trade fair for Christmas shopping, the chairman explained that the fair is not targeted at profit making but part of creating awareness that after a long time, the market has finally taken off fully.
Speaking further, he said that no fewer than 300 people have indicated interest to participate in the fair adding that all arrangements for a successful trade have been made which according to him include security of lives and property.
“The trade fair is an idea of the owners of the market.  They want more people to come and do business in the market and that is why they decided to organize the fair to attract businessmen and women to the market”, he further explained.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Director of All Purpose Shelters Limited, developers of the market, Mr. Segun Balogun gave a brief history of the market explaining that the project which started in 2008 was finally commissioned on August 2, this year.
He disclosed that the market was developed by the All Purpose Shelters Limited in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT administration under the Private Partnership Programme, PPP (Build Operate and Transfer) as part of efforts to open the FCT through construction of modern markets which includes Garki, Mabushi, Kawa and Wuye.
