Zaki Biam: Death Toll Rises To 52

Following violent attack on Zaki Biam International Market in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, the number of persons killed has risen to 52.
It was reliably gathered that the attackers operated for about three hours without response from security operatives.
Locals who spoke on the attack said that 13 persons were killed at the International Yam market, five from National Secondary school, eight at Debeer and over 15 at Asahatar village.
The locals who pleaded anonymity also said that several persons were abducted.
About 30 men armed with sophisticated weapons in a Pick Up van, Toyota Corolla and seven big motorcycles firing continuously into the air to scare away people were said to have invaded Yam Town around 3pm on Monday.
“Before now, they had written a letter that they will attack the area.
“They wore military uniform. They attacked Zaki Biam International Yam Market killing 13 people, injured over 10 persons. The gunmen were chanting song that meant anyone who is brave should come out.
“The operation lasted for over three (3) hours and security men in the area did nothing only for them to arrest innocent people later,” they said
